Inhaltsangabe: | Der Selfmade-Millionär Thomas Crown ist ein grandioser Kunstdieb. Dank eines raffiniert eingefädelten Ablenkungsmanövers gelingt Crown ein grandioser Coup: Auf elegante Weise stiehlt er ganz lässig das teuerste Gemälde in einem New Yorker Museum. Die Polizei tappe im Dunkeln, doch die attraktive Versicherungs-Detektivin Catherine Banning kommt dem Millionär bald auf die Spur. Schnell spüren die beiden Gegenspieler, daß sie auf derselben Wellenlänge liegen. Umso mehr genießen sie ihr hochkarätig inszeniertes Katz- und Maus-Spiel. Einer stürmischen Liebesnacht in Crowns luxuriöser Wohnung lässt Catherine eine Polizeirazzia folgen - ohne Erfolg. Umso mehr erhofft sie sich danach beim gemeinsamen Kurzurlaub in der Karibik das gesuchte Bild endlich zu finden. Crown ahnt, dass sich die Schlinge immer enger um seinen Kopf zieht - und genießt die Situation ebenso wie die Zeit mit der schönen Lady. Schließlich verspricht er seiner Rivalin, das Bild zurück ins Museum zu bringen und ein neues Leben mit Catherine anzufangen - ein perfekter Plan. Als Crown das Bild ins Museum zurückbringen will, wimmelt es dort von Polizei. Doch der Millionär hat noch einen verblüffenden Trumpf im Ärmel. Mit einem genialen Coup überrascht er cie Cops und Catherine.
