Inhaltsangabe: Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) hat zwar einen extrem niedrigen IQ, aber er ist nicht dumm, denn seine charakterstarke Mutter (Sally Field) hat ihm einige gute Ratschläge mit auf den Weg gegeben und seine Freundin Jenny (Robin Wright) tut ihr übriges dazu. Und so stolpert Forrest Gump durch die Weltgeschichte, ein dummer, weiser Tor, der meistens das Richtige tut, aber nicht immer weiß warum. Während der dreißig Jahre, die der Film umspannt, lehrt er Elvis so den Hüftschwung, wird Footballstar, trifft Kennedy, geht nach Vietnam und wird Held, trifft Nixon und Lennon, wird ein erfolgreicher Unternehmer und dann Guru einer Fitneßbewegung, bis er selbst nicht mehr Sohn, sondern Vater geworden ist. Und der Kreis schließt sich...
