Inhaltsangabe: Anfang der 70er Jahre hat die Mafia Las Vegas fest im Griff. Ihr bester Mann ist der Spieler Sam Rothstein (Robert De Niro). Der Casino-Chef kennt alle Tricks und weiß, wie man Leute abzockt. Sein gewalttätiger Freund Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) "entsorgt" Betrüger. Sein Erfolg macht Sam scheinbar unbesiegbar. Er heiratet die galante, selbstbewußte Spielerin Ginger (Sharon Stone), obwohl er weiß, daß sie einen anderen liebt. Für ihn ist sie nur ein weiteres Geschäft. Doch dann beginnt Sams Imperium zu wackeln: Ginger verkümmert durch seine Gefühlskälte, Nicky gründet eine brutale Gangsterbande, und Sams Spiellizenz soll annulliert werden.
