Inhaltsangabe: | Der US-Zeitungsmagnat Charles Foster "Citizen" Kane beherrscht über Jahrzehnte hinweg die öffentliche Meinung der USA. Sein geschäftliches Leben begann mit viel Enthusiasmus und dem Bekenntnis zur Wahrheit. Dann kam der Erfolg, mit ihm Ehrgeiz und schließlich die Loslösung von seinen Prinzipien bis zur Korruption durch Macht. Charles Foster Kane kommt schließlich in seiner phantastischen Traumvilla Xanadu ums Leben. Sein letztes Wort "Rosebud" (Rosenknospe) bleibt für den Reporter, der über die Hintergründe seines Todes berichten soll, ein Rätsel. Im Zuge seiner Nachforschungen rekonstruiert er Schritt für Schritt Kanes Vergangenheit. Er befragt Kanes Ex-Ehefrau Susan, die Kollegen von der Zeitung "Inquirer", die Kane mit 25 Jahren gründete. Er beschäftigt sich mit den Memoiren des Bankiers Thatcher, der dem jungen Kane vorausgesagt hatte, daß er ein großes Vermögen erben würde. Doch das Rätsel um "Rosebud" bleibt bestehen ...
