Inhaltsangabe: Fred Madison ist ein schizophrener Killer. Von Eifersuchtsfantasien zum Mord an seiner bezaubernden Ehefrau Renee getrieben, sitzt er nach seiner Verurteilung bis zur Exekution in einer Gefängniszelle für Todeskandidaten.
Doch eines morgens wartet nicht Fred, sondern der jüngere Pete Dayton auf die patroullierenden Wärter. Von Fred Madison fehlt jede Spur.

Schnell kehrt der offensichtlich unschuldige Pete in "sein" Leben als versierter Automechaniker zurück. Doch was ist an Pete Dayton wirklich real, wenn sein Stammkunde, der Mafioso Mr. Eddie, in Begleitung seiner atemberaubenden Freundin Alice, das blonde Ebenbild von Renee, in der Werkstatt auftaucht?

Pete und Alice beginnen eine heftige Affäre und geraten in einen Strudel von Verrat, Mord, Sex und Gewalt, an dessen Ende eins steht: Fred Madison ...
